the sounds of improvisation
19 seconds of Anthony Braxton-style bebop from our new band Kelvin's gig listen cambridge!
A little contrabass clarinet improvisation on a Friday afternoon
My contrabass clarinet has been making me extremely happy lately 🥰
It's really Dominic's delight with these sounds that make them. New piece by Scott McLaughlin coming soon, can't wait - we'll premiere it at Rainy Days festival in Luxembourg this year!
Stunning soft double bass/bass clarinet combo
I had a little bit of a rant/peptalk at the start of yesterday’s livestream for @tonebase.clarinet - someone’s previous teacher told them they didn’t need a warmup routine because they’re “just” an adult amateur and this gave me a LOT to think about. So many of my students on tonebase talk about feeling like the clarinet is like an unpredictable animal that they can’t control: and what better way to have control than to have a good warmup routine and good practicing habits? So, adult amateurs of the world: join me in developing a solid warmup routine! Make yourself a nice cup of coffee and crack on with those long tones!

Adult amateur clarinetists don't need a warm up? What?!
The hardest question on composer competition applications
In today's video I'm talking about the integration of three techniques in one of my favourite clarinet solo pieces, Mauricio Kagel's Schattenklänge!

If there are other composers whose clarinet writing you'd love me to cover, let me know in the comments!
